If you’re a fan of laugh-out-loud comedy, whip-smart storytelling and iconic on-screen moments, mark your calendars: Paul Feig is coming to SXSW Sydney 2025.
The celebrated filmmaker and creative force behind some of the most sidesplitting comedies of the past two decades will deliver a keynote and receive SXSW Sydney’s inaugural Screen Pioneer Award, honouring his contributions to genre filmmaking and film culture.
To celebrate, we’re rolling out a Paul Feig retrospective as part of the SXSW Sydney Screen Festival, showcasing three of his most beloved works on the big screen.
Screenings
Join us for a special celebration of Paul Feig’s career with screenings of two of his personal favourites — the era-defining, riotously funny Bridesmaids, and the sharp, subversive buddy-cop comedy The Heat — plus a 14-hour marathon of the cult-classic coming-of-age series Freaks and Geeks at The Ritz in Randwick.
As part of the Bridesmaids screening, enjoy an exclusive Q&A with Paul, giving fans a chance to dive deeper into the stories behind the screen. Whether you’re revisiting these cult classics or experiencing them for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to enjoy Feig’s work as it was meant to be seen: on the big screen, with a passionate crowd.

Want to know how to score a seat at these special screenings? Each screening has a limited number of seats allocated for passholders with Primary Access (Platinum and Screen Pro Passes) or Secondary Access (other Pro Passes and Screen Wristbands) to Screen Festival events. There’s also a limited allocation of Rush tickets available.
If you’ve got a pass, you’ll still need to arrive early—seating isn’t guaranteed, especially if you have Secondary Access. If you want to lock in your spot, a Rush ticket is the only way to guarantee a seat.

Feig will also take the stage on Wednesday 15 October for a keynote address as part of the SXSW Sydney Conference program. Expect sharp insights, behind-the-scenes stories and his trademark humour as he reflects on his career, from launching cult TV hits to directing global box office smashes.
