Sydney, Australia – South by Southwest Sydney® (SXSW Sydney) has today revealed that Twitch CEO Dan “DJClancy” Clancy will take to the SXSW Sydney Conference stage this October, in his first public speaking appearance in Australia since becoming CEO of Twitch in 2023.
Clancy will join a number of Sessions, sharing his hard-won insights on the creator economy and what it takes to build and nurture online communities. In a recent Open Letter, Clancy outlined Twitch’s plans for 2024, noting collaboration, mobile experiences, sponsorships and safety as priority topics as keys to success. SXSW Sydney attendees will get the chance to hear Dan engage with local industry leaders and streamers, and explore where live streaming is going over the next few years.
On this latest addition to the Games track, SXSW Sydney Managing Director Colin Daniels says, “it is with great pride and excitement that we welcome Dan to Australia and SXSW Sydney. He is an industry luminary, and someone who has advocated for gamers and streamers passionately over the years - we expect him to bring his bold ideas to our stage in October”.
Clancy will join an already stacked Games lineup in Sydney this year, alongside other key players including Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, sustainable game studio Strange Scaffold’s Creative Director Xalavier Nelson Jr, and Pacific Drive’s lead narrative designer Karrie Shao.
“The 2024 SXSW Sydney games program will clearly demonstrate the breadth of creativity and talent in the global and local games industry” says Daniels. “This October will offer games professionals, established enthusiasts and new gamers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the future of this boundless industry.”
Recognising the unlimited potential of the games sector, Xsolla has joined SXSW Sydney as a sponsor of the 2024 Games Industry track. The global video game commerce company will be presenting a number of cornerstone events throughout the program, themed around growing successful games businesses. With Xsolla’s support, SXSW Sydney is serving up a world-class Games Industry track. Designed for a range of games industry professionals at different career levels, sessions will focus on business and professional development, marketing and PR, and technical development. Some key highlights in the program include “Understanding the investor mindset; a games publisher roundtable”, “Mastering Crowdfunding: Success strategies for game developers”, and “Character Customisation - Identity in Video Games”. See our website for more.
Xsolla will also join a roster of international publishers, agencies and investors including taking part in the Games Investment Forum. The Games Investment Forum offers seminars, mentoring, workshops, and matchmade investor sessions to help game developers take the next step.
The 2024 Games Festival program builds upon the foundation set at last year’s inaugural Event in Sydney, which saw over 287,000 attendees descend on the Harbour City to discover 200 games from 18 countries in the biggest showcase of indie games in Australia. Games developers took part in more than 150 one-on-one investor meetings, and a host of industry leaders, including Mike and Amy Morhaime, Troy Baker, and Sam Barlow featured.
Exclusive to Platinum and Games Badge Holders, Games Investment Forum will take place on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18. Developers who wish to apply for the Forum or Matchmade Investor Sessions can apply here.
